On November 27th, the "WISE2025 Business King" conference was held in Beijing, and 36Kr released the "WISE2025 Business King" annual list. Cheng Tangsheng, co-founder and general manager of Lightstandard, was selected as "Pioneer of the New Generation of Business" for his pioneering scientific research contributions in the field of optical computing and his keen business acumen.
During his doctoral studies at Oxford University, Cheng Tangsheng demonstrated his research capabilities in the field of optical computing. He focused on the optical application research of phase change materials, led his team to develop new phase change materials, and successfully achieved large-scale integration of phase change material optical chips.
While achieving scientific research success, Cheng Tangsheng keenly perceived the broad application prospects and huge commercial value of optical computing in the era of artificial intelligence. Therefore, in 2022, he returned to China with the mission of "bringing intelligent computing power into the era of light" to found Lightstandard, in order to realize the first implementation of optical computing chips in China.
As a pioneer in the commercialization of optical computing chips in China, Cheng Tangsheng led his team to successfully tape out the world's first 128×128 matrix-scale optical computing chip in June 2024. This breakthrough broke through the matrix-scale bottleneck that had plagued the optical computing industry for many years. The computing power density and accuracy both reached commercial standards, and the entire process was made domestically produced. This chip is expected to help China achieve a leapfrog development in the field of high-end AI computing chips.
In 2025, Cheng Tangsheng led his team to further improve the performance of optical computing chips, while accelerating the application of optical computing products and promoting the integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation.
